New Books That I'm Reading

Hello -

My most recently finished book was the third Maximum Ride book by James Patterson. All three books in this series and fast, fun, and wonderful reads, and I suggest that everyone reads them. (Maybe not everyone, but everyone that likes fantasy/science fiction books, or just anyone looking for a good read.)

I've also been reading a series by Ellen Emerson White. Startin with The President's Daughter as book 1 and White House Autumn as book 2, this series focusus on a teenage girl who's mother runs for President, and wins. The story follows her life as her mother moves from being a Senator to becoming President of the United States. Moving to the White House is a big change for their family. Lots of things happen in only the first 2 books, and I can't wait to read Long Live the Queen (book 3) and Long may she Reign (book 4.)

My 3rd classic book for school is going to be The Color Purple By Alice Walker. It's good so far. I've heard that it's a very good book, but it's kind of hard to read because of the concepts and themes, not because of the writing style, although that in itself isn't perfect proper English.

Have a nice first week of December!

Anna Karenina

Wow -

I'm finally done! This morning, about 3 minutes ago, I finished reading Anna Karenina.

I thought it was a good book. I liked how it told the story of multiple characters and families all at the same time. It was interesting, and it wasn't boring unless the characters were talking about something that I only half understood, which only happened every once in awhile.

I'm happy that I'm done with it, and I'm proud of myself for reading it in such a short time compared to the time it took me to read David Copperfield. Reading books for school has it's downsides, but if it makes me read books quicker and read more books, as long as I'm not missing things, then I'm fine with that.

Yay, I'm done!

Fantasy

Hello -

Recently I have read the first Maximum Ride book By James Patterson (good, and I already have books 2 and 3 on hold at the library) and Heart of Stone by C.E. Murphy.

Heart of Stone is the first book in the Negotiator trilogy. I can't wait until March '08 when House of Cards (Book 2) and August '08 when Hands of Flame (Book 3) come out!!

I'm almost done reading Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. I have to finish writing stuff about it by the 29th and I hope to have finished reading it at least by the 27th. I'm currently on page 771 out of 817. I'm getting close to the end!

Have fun reading!

Next Classic Book

Hi -

For my second classic book of the school year, I've decided to read Anna Karenina By Leo Tolstoy. I'm reading the newest translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky.

Currently I'm on page 123, and I really like it. It's really interesting, I like the characters, and I like the arrangement of the chapters.

Go read -

Emma

Hey!

I just finished reading Emma! (As in I finished reading it a couple of minutes ago!)

It was a lot better than I thought it would be, and I actually REALLY liked it. The problem with reading it for school, is that I have to say what it reminds me of, and that's hard to do when you've seen the movie. (We're not allowed to use the movie as a reference.)

We have our "book talk" when everyone gives speeches on their books starting October 11, so I have a week (and a few days) to make a speech about Emma. We have certain elements that we have to include in our speech, including quotes from the book.

I'm now going to be reading Code Name Cassandra, By Meg Cabot (or Jenny Carroll, depending on where you are, and what copy of the book you're looking at.)

See ya!

Summer Reading

Hey!

I meant to put a list of what I read this summer on here, and I forgot, so here it is now! (The books are in the order that I read them this summer. Sorry none of them have authors listed, but I forgot to jot down the author with the title. If any of the books interest you, I can try to track down the author.)

1. Urban Shaman By C.E. Murphy (Book 1)
Summary: Joanne sees someone being attacked from a plane and since she is determined to help the person, it leads to her meeting Gary and finding out about non-human things. She also has to learn how to use her own new powers.
Thoughts: It was a good book and I put the sequel on hold as soon as I finished this book. It was really interesting and based in Seattle.
2. Book of Shadows By Cate Tiernan (Book 1)
Summary: Morgan starts learning about Wicca from Cal, the new boy in school, and discovers that she is good at it. The book follows her while she learns more about Wicca and her abilities.
Thoughts: It was a good book and Morgan was a good main character. I stayed up reading this book until I finished it, if that tells you anything. : )
3. The Constant Princess By Philippa Gregory
Summary: This book is about Catalina of Spain who marries Arthur at the age of 15. On his deathbed she promises him that she will marry his brother and become Katherine, Queen of England. This book follows her life.
Thoughts: It was a good book, but I liked The Queen's Fool better, which is by the same author.
4. Sloppy Firsts By Megan McCafferty (Book 1)
Summary: This story follows the life of Jessica Darling after her friend Hope moves away.
Thoughts: It's a good book. I have read this book at least 2 times.
5. Singer By Jean Thesman
Summary: Mary escapes from her mother and changes homes frequently to stay hidden. On the journey she learns about her powers and tries to help her friends and others along the way.
Thoughts: Good story and plotline but it was kind of odd.
6. Perfect Strangers By Jahnna Malcolm
Summary: As Madison runs for her school's body president, she gets closer to her Heart-2-Heart pen pal. She also learns the truth about an event that is in the past.
7. Second Helpings By Megan McCafferty (Book 2)
Summary: As Jessica approaches her final years in high school, she has to evaluate her feelings for Marcus and what her college plans are.

Emma

Hello -

My newest reading adventure? Reading Emma By Jane Austen for school. This year for English, we're supposed to read 2 classics per trimester. Then we have to do a 3-5 minute speech on the book we read, while making sure that we cover certain criteria.

As you can tell, the first book I chose was Emma By Jane Austen. I'm on page 95 at the moment, and it's good. So far it's a lot easier to read than David Copperfield was. I'm not sure whether it's less intimidating, with it being 379 pages versus 800, or whether it's actually easier, but so far I like it. It also doesn't hurt that I have to have my speech done and prepared by October 11th.

I don't know which classics I'll read after Emma, but Jane Eyre, Oliver Twist, Pride and Predjudice and others look interesting.

Hope you're reading a good book too!

Hurt Go Happy

Hello -

I finished an incredibly good book last night called Hurt Go Happy By Ginny Rorby.

It's the amazing story of a deaf girl who gets attached to an old man and his ape (not monkey) Sukari. The story progresses as Joey (the girl) and Sukari create an understanding and talk to each other through sign language. This book has so much depth and I cried twice while reading it.

FYI - Towards the end of the book when they go to pick up Sukari, it's extremely sad and kind of disturbing.

It's a great book, and everyone should read it!!!!

Books of Summer

Wow.

I can't believe that summer's almost over. I'm not exactly looking forward to school starting back up in about 10 days. AGH!

Summer has been fun. Along with doing fun activities, I also read a lot this summer. So far, I think my total is 69 books that I have read through out this summer. I know I have a list of all 69 books, but I don't think I'm going to post that.

I am attaching a picture of a book that I just finished reading. It's called Bringing Up the Bones, and it was really good.

So, yay. I hope people read some good books this summer!

My new book passion - Historical Fiction

Hey!
Yeah, as you can tell from my headline, I've been reading historical fiction lately.
The cool thing about historical fiction is that it feels like a story, like any other book you read, but it throws in some facts without you realizing it, and it is based on real people.
I recently read The Queen's Fool By Philippa Gregory, which was good. (Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. Set in the early 1550s. From the point of view of Hannah, the royal fool.)
Now I'm reading The Dragon Queen By Alice Borchardt. (Guinevere and her life. Has magic in it, so it's not really historical fiction...it's like historical fiction/fantasy, but whatever.)
I also have
- The Constant Princess By Philippa Gregory
- A Countess Below Stairs By Eva Ibbotson
AND
- A Song For Summer By Eva Ibbotson

The Constant Princess is about Katherine of Aragon (King Henry VIII's first wife.)
The other 2 aren't based on real people, but A Song for Summer is set during World War II, and A Countess Below Stairs is set right after the Russian Revolution. I don't know the actual dates, but World War II was in the 1940's...right? I think the Russian Revolution one was before World War I?? (I'm flipping through the book to find dates, which I'm not finding, but the prologue says "...that was St. Petersburg before the First World War..."

I think a lot of people would actual enjoy Historical Fiction if they gave it a chance. So, give it a chance!!! Just read one or two and then decide whether you like it or not.

Thanks for listening!
Kaminsky

P.S. -
I also have the following from the library. Does anyone have any opinions of any of them?
- The Changeover By Margaret Mahy
- Paladin of Souls By Lois McMaster Bujold
- A Bad Boy Can Be Good For a Girl By Tanya Lee Stone
- The Firebrand By Marion Zimmer Bradley
- The Moon Riders By Theresa Timlinson
- The Forgotten Beasts of Eld By Patricia A. McKillip
- Sold By Patricia McCormick
- Dead Connection By Charlie Price

Also - If anyone wants to know if I've already a read a book and what I think about it, or if you want to recomend a book, just leave me a comment!!

L8r G8r

Hey!
The latest book that I've finished reading is called L8r G8r. It's by Lauren Myracle.
It's the 3rd book in a series. The first book is TTYL and the 2nd is TTFN. For anyone who doesn't already know - TTYL=Talk To You Later, TTFN=Ta Ta For Now, and L8r g8r=Later gater.
A lot of you have probably seen the first 2 covers around - Book #1 is pink, Book #2 is Green, and they have computer smiley/unsmiley faces on them. I'm attaching the 3rd book's cover to show you generally what they look like.
They are good books. They are all written in I.M., and to make it easier to read, one of the main characters text is in blue!
As I said before, it's the 3rd book, and you might be a little lost if you don't read the first 2 books before this one.
I don't recomend that any guys read this, but girls would probably really enjoy it.
Have fun - I hope everyone is reading lots!!

More Of What I'm Reading.........Will It Ever End?

Hello!!
I've still been reading a lot lately. I read a lot of books while I was in Hawaii. I know that probably surprises you, but I did. I brought 10 books, and bought 2 more while I was there, and I read the 2 that I bought, and I read 4-6 more of the ones that I brought.
I don't remember all of the names of the books that I read............

On to what I've been reading now!!
I just finished a book called Sharing Sam - It was good, but kind of weird. It was about a girl and a guy (Allison and Sam.) Allison and Sam fell in Love, but once Allison learns that her best friend Isabelle has a crush on him and that Isabelle has brain cancer, she asks Sam to date her so that she can be happy before she dies. It was ok, but not the greatest book in the world.

I just had a thought. If people wanted to leave me a comment suggesting books to read, that would be fine by me. I like having suggestions of books to read. I might not get around to reading the books right away, but if I'm interested at all, then I'll probably read them sometime. I'll probably check the book out at the library and then I would read it.

I'll talk more later!!!

My Reading Habits . . And Other Stuff

Hello Everyone!!!
Here's what I've been reading lately!!
Most recently I've been reading books by Lauren Brooke. I just finished Chestnut Hill #6, All or Nothing, and now I am rereading her first series called Heartland. Both series are about horses and are a little bit too easy for me. I don't care though!! ; ) At the moment I am on #6 of my rereading adventures. That means that I still have 15 to go!!
Before that I read a book called Spirited By Nancy Holder. It is a take on Beauty and the Beast, and it's really good.
Before that I read Chill Factor by Rachel Caine, Steal the Dragon by Patricia Briggs, Snowfall by K.M.Peyton and Bella at Midnight by Diane Stanley. They were all good, but after reading Chill Factor I decided that I didn't want to read the rest of the series. It was a good book, but the books were becoming less and less interesting and more . . .just. . . .stuff to fill the pages almost. I don't know how to fully explain it.

At the moment, here are the books that I have checked out from the library.
Mistletoe - Which is a book of 4 short stories by Hailey Abbott, Melissa de la Cruz, Aimee Friedman, and Nina Malkin
The Sacrifice - By Kathleen Benner Duble
Companions of the Night - By Vivian Vande Velde
Wolfblade - Jennifer Fallon
Miracle on 49th Street - By Mike Lupica
Cathy's Book If found call (650) 266-8233 - By . . I don't think it says . . let me double check . . It's by - Stewart/Weisman/Brigg

I haven't read any of the library books yet, but I am planning to read them after I finish rereading the entire Heartland series.

I am attaching some pictures of book covers to this blog entry. The one where you can't see the person's head is called Spirited by Nancy Holder and the other one is a cover of one of the Heartland books.
ENJOY!!!!!!!

Books I have read recently . .

Hello -
So, here are the books that I have read recently and bought and so on.

I have taken a rest on the book A Circle of Friends because I just got a lot of books from the library and they have a due date and I own A Circle of Friends.
The only book that I have read from this batch of books so far is called Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David L. (Levigne? Something like that maybe as his last name.) I thought it would be really good because I liked the books Gingerbread and Shrimp that Rachel Cohn wrote, but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. It had a lot of cussing in it, which just made the book seem like either cussing was a normal way of talking or that the characters were constantly angry, but not angry, at the same time. It was weird.

The other books that I got from the library were -
Bella at Midnight By Diane Stanley
Snowfall By K.M. Peyton
Seventeenth Summer By Maureen Daly (Was a written a long time before I thought it was written. I thought is was written pretty recently, but inside it has a copyright of 1966 or something like that. Look it up on the internet if you are interested.)
Steal the Dragon By Patricia Briggs
Chill Factor By Rachel Caine
AND
Windfall By Rachel Caine

So as you can see, I need to wait on Circle of Friends so that these books don'tbeome overdue.

I got a book at Barnes and Nobles today and it's called -
All of Nothing By Lauren Brooke.
It is number 6 in the Chestnut Hill series. It is not a young adult book, and is in fact a younger reader/kid book, but I love the Heartland series by Lauren Brooke and I just can't seem to stop reading her books, even though they are too easy for me. That's probably a bad thing, but whatever.

I hope everyone is reading good books that interest them!!!
